CONCEPT & TRANSCRIPTION
“Conservation is the preservation, protection, care and restoration of our cultural heritage.” (Icon, 2017)
Understanding the process of conservation is important in order to design a specialised environment that enhances user’s experience, hence function efficiently. Conservators are trained professionals who have garnered scientific skills along with knowledge of history, architecture, art and changing trends in order to understand the context of an object and therefore allow them to conserve appropriately.
Transcription was used to influence the design and form a deeper understanding of the conservation process and curation of antique stalls. It will use drawings and photographs to form representations to tackle the complex relationship between spaces and their use; objects and events. The formula took precedent from ‘The Manhattan Transcripts’ by
Bernard Tschumi (1981).
